Turn it into a juicy cheeseburger piled onto a toasted hamburger bun, leaf lettuce, crisp bacon and an over easy egg.

Why this recipes works:

  • Start with a store bought hamburger patty to make it super easy or make your own.
  • The toasted bun takes it over the top. Don't ever skip toasting your burger bun!
  • Breakfast or Dinner? Maybe both!!

Ingredients Needed

  • Hamburger patties – Either grab some from the store or make our homemade ones.
  • Cheese Slices – We went with a sliced American cheese but you can use your favorite cheese just make sure it's a good melting cheese.
  • Bacon Slices – Thicker the better! Maybe try some smoked bacon to really give it the ultimate flavor.
  • Butter
  • Eggs
  • Lettuce leaves – Leaf lettuce is the best option for this burger.
  • Buns – Grab some hearty buns that will hold up to the burger and toasting.
  • Salt & Pepper – Just a little to taste

Steps to Prepare

  • Grill Burgers – The first thing you want to do is preheat your grill to 350 – 400 degrees F. You can also use a grill pan on the stove top if you'd like. Place your burgers on the grill or in the pan. Flip after about 3 minutes and then cook an additional 6 minutes. When you have one minute left of grilling time place slice of cheese on top of burgers. USDA recommends an internal temperature for 160 degrees F for hamburgers.
  • Toast Buns – Butter the insides of your bun and place on grill to toast them.
  • Prepare Bacon – While the burgers are cooking prepare bacon in skillet according to directions on package. You can even do this ahead of time and cover with tinfoil to keep warm.
  • Fry Eggs – Heat a pan with 2 Tbsp butter over medium high heat. When the butter foams, break the eggs into the pan, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Reduce the heat to low and season the eggs with salt and pepper. Cover the pan and cook until the whites are set and the yolks are just beginning to firm around the edge, about 5 minutes. The key is to not cook these to long so you have that delicious runny egg!
  • Assemble Burgers – Place a leaf of lettuce on bun, top with burger, bacon and egg.

Expert Tips

  • If you are making your own burgers use beef that is no leaner than 85% but I prefer 80%. Due to the high fat content your burger will be juicy and full of flavor. Beware that higher fat meat with shrink more when they are grilled.
  • Another tip for making your own hamburger patties is use a light touch when combining seasoning with the ground beef, if you mix to much you will be left with dense and heavy burgers.
  • If it seems hard to make the burgers on the grill while making bacon and eggs on the stove top just make the burgers in a frying pan too. You can toast the bun in a frying pan too.
  • Top it with a little hot sauce to kick it up a notch.

  • Heat a gas grill to high heat. When it reaches 350 – 400 degrees F place burgers on grill grate. Grill the first side about 3 minutes or until golden brown and slightly charred. Flip over burgers. Cook an additional 6 minutes or until it reaches desired doneness. When you have one minute left of grilling time place a slice of cheese on top of burger and let it melt.

  • While burgers are cooking you will want to fry your eggs either on a skillet on the stove or on the grill. Heat a pan with 2 Tbsp butter over medium high heat. When the butter foams, break the eggs into the pan, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
